The Gender Based Violence Action Program (GBVAP) Uganda works to prevent and respond to all forms of gender-based violence. Through our hubs in Northern Uganda and Central Kampala, we provide comprehensive support services to survivors while driving systemic change through advocacy and community education.

Types of Gender-Based Violence
Gender-based violence takes many forms. Understanding these is the first step towards prevention, early intervention, and supporting survivors.
Physical Violence
Physical assault including beating, burning, kicking, and other forms of bodily harm inflicted upon a person.
Psychological / Emotional
Intimidation, threats, isolation, humiliation, and controlling behaviours that cause mental and emotional trauma.
Sexual Violence
Any sexual act committed against a person without consent, including rape, sexual harassment, and exploitation.
Economic Violence
Withholding financial resources, preventing employment, or controlling a person's economic independence.
Harmful Traditional Practices
Forced/early marriage, female genital mutilation, widow inheritance, and other culturally harmful practices.
Child Abuse & Neglect
Violence against children including child labour, denial of education, trafficking, and abandonment.
